Lakshmi started her own venture, Sri Mudhraalaya alongside teaching at her Guru Padmasri Chitra Visweswaran’s institute CAPA where she served for more than a decade.
Lakshmi also serves as a Guest Faculty for MA Bharatanatyam Course in the Music Department, University of Madras and has conducted workshops in Chennai, Kolkata and also in U S and Canada. She has written lessons for MA dance course in Annamalai University, Bachelors lessons for Alagappa University & course material for Prayathnam. She is a consultant for Alagappa University and is invited to play the role of an examiner by several institutions and regional selection committees.
The beauty of the teaching methodology is that students are treated in a unique manner to bring the best out of them, to showcase their potentials and create individual dancers who can improvise, analyse, think for themselves giving emphasize to manodharma rather than merely memorizing movements year after year.
Sri Mudhraalaya
Started in the year 1994, Sri Mudhraalayais a registered society with satellite institutions headed by her students, in different parts of Chennai.
What makes it unique?
The institution offers group and individual classes that aims at: holistic training in practical dancing, theory and exercises, nattuvangam, stage craft, stage management, stage presentation, production assistance, lighting, choreography and teachers training.
That is why many Students of Sri Mudhraalaya, today are independent teachers who have in turn conducted Arangetrams of their students.
It gives wide scope to serious learners by encouraging them to perform at prestigious festivals especially the Chennai music and dance festival. Some of them are establishing themselves as marked soloists in India.
Sri Mudhraalaya offers Scholarship to outstanding students. ‘Suvidhyaarthi’ to deserving students has also been instituted.
